July 24, 2016–Class news letter

Hello everyone,

Attached you will find our weekly newsletter.

A big thank you to Michelle Place for stepping in to give us a wonder lesson in Dr. Biggs absence. Rob Reck cancelled his trip to France (he was just kidding…however he really wants to go to France, at a later date) to be on standby if Dr. Biggs still has not recovered. Keep him in your prayers.

Our St Luke’s dinner mission went great! Thank you all for helping.

Our Finance committee meet after class this Sunday to discuss and formulate our 2nd half of our money distributions. More later from Dave Grim.

Finally, this coming Sunday, July 31st will be our monthly social–BABA production of, "Anything Goes". We have reservations at the Spaghetti Warehouse, 12-2PM, then back to BA for the 2:30PM performance. Karen Campbell has our tickets and will be leading us around to make sure we get to where we need to be and on time!

Do good things all the time,

Peace,

Jim & Julee

Hello from Jim Embrey

Hello everyone,

I hope all is well with you all. Julee and I will be managing Maranatha for the next two weeks while Angie and Jim are out of town.

I have been informed by Brenda Reed that Mouzon is sick and will not be at church tomorrow. You don’t hear that statement very often!

I am looking for a volunteer to teach or lecture a class tomorrow…Please come ready to share if you are interested, otherwise, you just don’t know what you will get!

See you tomorrow,

Jim

Update on assistance for James Kilman’s family

Dear Maranatha Family:

I only know marginally more than I did yesterday, but I will tell you what I have learned. Maranatha is not responsible for the funeral lunch, but we have been asked to serve and clean up after the funeral reception in the parlor. To make it simple, Sharon Cambridge is going to put iced tea and cookies in the parlor for us to serve. Anyone that is available to come early to help set up, serve and help clean up afterwards would be greatly appreciated. While Sharon has cookies she can provide, you are also welcome to provide cookies if you have time. Sharon will bill us for the iced tea and any cookies that we use.

I know that some class members have made memorial contributions in lieu of flowers to help purchase James’ columbarium niche and that is greatly appreciated by the family. If you are interested in making such a memorial contribution, please contact Brenda Reed at the church.

Carol Grim will be making an announcement on Sunday morning regarding any meals that the family may need in the following days. If you are able to provide such a meal, Carol will have all the details for you.

For the rest of the weekend, I will NOT HAVE ACCESS to this email account, so please do not reply to this address. Instead, please email me at adale or call or text me at (918) 638-2353 so that I can respond to you more quickly.

As is always the case, the heart of Maranatha beats strong and true at times like this, and the arms of Maranatha reach out with love and compassion to surround those in need. I am grateful to be part of you.

Angie

Request for assistance for James Kilman’s family

Dear Maranatha Class:

I have been asked to notify you that if anyone would like to make a memorial donation in James’ memory in lieu of flowers, please call Brenda Reed at the church. I believe the memorial donation would be the family’s preference.

Our class has also been asked to provide meals for the family starting tomorrow. Carol Grim is getting additional details on the meal needs and then will provide that information. We may be asked to provide a funeral lunch as well, and are waiting on a call back from Rev. Tankersley to confirm whether our class will be doing so. As soon as I have that information, I will update you immediately.

Thank you so much for your continuing compassion and flexibility as information becomes available during this difficult time.

Maranatha newsletter and funeral arrangements

Dear Maranatha friends:

Attached you will find the newsletter for this week. I have also been advised that the funeral service for James Kilman has been set for Saturday, July 16th, at 11:00 a.m., in the sanctuary. I have been in contact with Denise, Darryl and Renee, letting them know that we are available to do anything that would be helpful. If I hear that there is anything that they would like from us, I will immediately let you know. In the meantime, please hold close all the people you love and take a moment to let them know how much they matter to you.

Please know that you are appreciated, enjoyed and admired by your fellow class members.

Tragic news

Dear friends:

It is with a very heavy heart that I must inform you that our class member James Kilman has died of suicide. No details are yet known regarding when the service will be held. I have sent word to his ex-wife Denise that we are available to do anything for the family that would be helpful (food, transportaion, errands, etc.). Please take time to pray for his daughters Darryl & Renee and for everyone grieving this terrible loss,

If you need to contact me regarding this, please use my Hall Estill email address so that I can respond more quickly.

Maranatha Newsletter

Hey, Maranatha friends:

For those of you who were able to join us, wasn’t it a joy to hear Dr. Biggs teach last week? When he started to speak, it was as if something slipped perfectly into place in my mind. The sound of his voice, the cadence of his words, the clarity of the journey on which he took us around the ancient world following the travels of Paul. It all combined to bring me home again, as if I had wrapped myself in a snuggly blanket to listen to a beloved recording of a favorite musical. Now if he had just managed to work the words “hesed,” or “ruach” into his lesson, everything would have been perfect! But I digress. The bottom line is that we have Dr. Biggs as our speaker for another four weeks, during the entire month of July, so you have four more Sundays to get in on the action! Just drop by the Maranatha classroom between 9:45 and 10:45, and you, too, can get your ruach fix!

We are currently sending around sign-up sheets for the July class social to go to lunch after the 11:00 service on July 31st, and to attend the 2:30 matinee performance of Anything Goes. Tickets are $10.00 and we need payment at the time of sign-up. We will continue to buy tickets each week until the performance so check your calendars and plan to join us if you can. There are tons of Maranatha members and family members in the cast and crew so come support our own!

Remember that you are appreciated, enjoyed and admired by your class members.
