Lynn Jesse Russell’s Father

It is with great sadness that I let you know my Daddy lost his battle with cancer last night. He truly fought the brave fight as all of you know. We ask for prayers for my Mom as they had been married 76 years. I was so blessed to have him as my role model and biggest supporter. I will miss him terribly but know he is trying out his new wings tonight. His service will be Thursday at 2:00 at the First Baptist Church in Anadarko. Blessings to all,
Lynn

Exodus House Work This Weekend

Hey, Maranatha Friends:

Sharon Earley asked that I forward to you the following email:

Angie,
Can you please pass the following information on to the Maranatha class? Thanks.

I’m pleased to pass on that Lee-Lee arrived safely at her Dad’s place in Georgia on Monday. She wants to thank the class for all the love and support she received during her time with us. She and her Dad are very happy to be back together.

Now that Lee-Lee has moved, it is time for us to focus on actively getting the apartment ready for our next resident (or two!). The carpet will be cleaned on Wednesday, and I’d like to spend time Sunday and Monday of Labor Day Weekend getting the apartment ready. I’m in need of a few volunteers to help make sure the place is nice and clean – clean the bathroom and kitchen, wash dishes, wash windows, sort through and store donated items, etc. Fortunately, Jason will be able to help with the heavy lifting as we pick up and bring furniture in. If you can help in any way, please give me a call at 918-492-1803. That’s my home number so either Jason will answer or you can leave a message. I’ll give you a call back when I’m home.

Also, thanks to everyone that signed up to bring items for the apartment. Lots of things have been brought to class, but I haven’t had a chance to go through them to see if there are any outstanding items. if you signed up to bring something and will be in town on Sunday, Sept 4, please try to bring it to class that day. Or you can give me a buzz and i may be able to pick it up.

Thanks,

Sharon R Earley

Maranatha Newsletter

Hey, Maranatha friends:

As we teeter on the edge of a holiday weekend, there are a couple of fun things that I wanted to bring to your attention. First, this Sunday will be another holiday brunch for us, and, in keeping with our practice this year of hosting other classes for our holiday brunches so we have opportunities for fellowship with great church members that we rarely get to see, we are hosting the LIving the Questions Class. So bring your best brunch treats and enjoy talking to fun folks during the brunch hour.

Secondly, for the second year in a row, September has been designated the "All Church Study" at the request of the church staff. That means all adult classes will be studying the same material at the same time throughout September. Many classes are banding together to study the curriculum, to make it more festive. The book this year is Five Marks of a Methodist. We scurried around early and secured Dr. Joel Panciera as our teacher for the material, since we know he is a great instructor. We are teaming up with the Living the Questions Class, so they will be sitting in with us during the month of September to hear Joel teach these lessons. Please make them feel warmly welcomed, as only Maranatha can do. We’ll get started right on time each week, since rumor has it Joel has that choir gig . . .

So have a great week, and an even better holiday weekend, and hopefully spend part of it with us.

Remember that you are appreciated, enjoyed and admired by your class members.

Maranatha Newsletter

Hey, Maranatha friends:

Hope you had a good week! Couple of things to note:

This week we have Dr. Gary Peluso-Verdend back to speak to us for the second week of his series on Anger & Love. Remember that next week is a holiday weekend so we will have a Labor Day Brunch with the Living the Questions class as our guests. Bring your best treats and prepare for a festive morning of food, fun and fellowship!

Two women from our class have a great opportunity to win tickets to attend a terrific event in December. Our own Margaret Bean is the Co-Chair of the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary Christmas Luncheon which will be held this year on Tuesday, December 6th from 10:30 to 12:30. To support Margaret and the Salvation Army, Maranatha has purchased two tickets to this great event. Over 500 women attend this festive luncheon which includes a huge silent auction, live auction, scrumptious food and a fun fashion show. Email Margaret at thequeenofbeen )if you want to attend the Luncheon, and your name will be put in a drawing. The drawing will be held in class sometime in September. Must be present to win – just kidding! Margaret will contact you if you win, but why wouldn’t you want to be in class in September to hear Dr. Joel Panciera speak on Five Marks of a Methodist? We will be joined in September by the Living the Questions Class, many of whom are Maranatha alumnae, so it will be a family reunion in J221!

Have a good weekend and remember that you are appreciated, enjoyed and admired by your class members.

Maranatha Newsletter and Funeral for Nancy Manduano’s Mother

Hey, Maranatha friends:

Sadly, I need to tell you that Nancy Manduano’s mother has passed away. Visitation will be held Sunday, August 21st at Ninde Funeral Home from 2:00 to 4:00 in Tulsa, and the funeral will be held in Oklahoma City at Village Baptist Church on Tuesday, August 23rd at 10:00 a.m. Please hold Nancy and Joey in your prayers at this difficult time.

Sharon Earley asked me to emphasize the Labor Day Reunion for Exodus House that should be an excellent event. There is detailed information about it in the Announcements Section of the newsletter.

Those of you who recently heard Dr. Gary Peluso-Verdend preach in our pulpit know what a gifted speaker he is and will want to hear him teach our lesson for the next two weeks.

Remember that you are appreciated, enjoyed and admired by your class members.

Maranatha Newsletter

Hey, Maranatha friends:

Jim and I enjoyed our vacation, but it is lovely to be back among you! This week we (hopefully) welcome home Paul Staat from his sojourn at M.D. Anderson, and (jealously) bid farewell to Skip and Paula Scott when they begin their grand adventure to retire to Ambergris Caye, a beautiful island in Belize. At the same time we (lovingly) lift up prayers for many of our members who are caring for aging parents in ill health and (trepidatiously) watch as some of our children continue to pursue their own dreams. Ahhhhh, the circle of life is alive and well in J221, the Maranatha Classroom, isn’t it? (Don’t worry: I’m not about to don traditional African garb and lift up our obese orange cat over my head in a mock reenactment of the Circle of Life scene from The Lion King.) Your mental images of the movie are safe.

Have a good week and remember that you are appreciated, enjoyed and admired by your class members.

More Info

From Ginny and Jerry:

Dear Maranatha,

Thank you all for your kind prayers for Rorie, who was struck by a car last week. Her leg is still swollen so the Dr. cannot yet put it in a cast and says it will be next week before he can set it and then she will be in a cast 8 weeks. While she is in lots of pain between medications, she is doing very well and we are so grateful that she will heal from this injury, knowing it could have been so much worse. Again, we feel great love from Maranatha!

Ginny and Jerry

From Rex & Allene:

Jim, could you send out the note below to the class to see if we can get a few more people Saturday morning?

Thanks, Rex and Allene

Jim,

Here is a little more information on the move this Saturday morning helping Kip Jones get to his new apartment. We will meet at 7:30 at his old apartment, 1116 E, 60th Street, apt B. We will have a truck and two strong loading men from the HOW Foundation to load the heavy stuff. We need class members for a box brigade to load and unload boxes from the truck. We will be finished with the move on or before noon Saturday so those that want can attend EvaMarie Campbell’s Father’s funeral at Boston Avenue at 2pm.

Kip’s phone number is 405-385-1607 or you can contact us at 918-744-8656.

Thanks,

Rex and Allene
