Advent Sunday at Maranatha, December 19, 2010 – See you tomorrow!

Hope to see you tomorrow for continuation of our Advent celebration at Maranatha! Our teacher will be Michelle Place, and the title of her lesson is "The Blessing of God With Us". Bible references for the lesson are: Isaiah 7:10-16; Romans 1:1-7; Matthew 1:18-25. See you tomorrow!

Meredith and I will leaving in the middle of next week for an extended holiday trip, visiting our children who, literally, live around the world. We will not be back in Sunday School until the third Sunday in January 2011. So, we will not be able to give you another electronic report for the class prior to our return, and will no longer be your Presidents beginning in January. Long story short, I expect this may be our last report given our commitments prior to leaving on the trip.

Therefore, I want to also let you know about the lesson at class on December 26th. Our teacher will be Paul Loyd who will be teaching the final lesson of the Advent Season series entitled, "The Blessing of Light". The Bible passages associated with his lesson are: Isaiah 9:2-7; Titus 2:11-14; Luke 2:1-20. On December 26th, there is no planned greeters or people who will bring snacks. It will be an "everyone greets and treats" Sunday! Everyone is encouraged to bring a snack and greet your fellow members and visitors!

We’ll miss being with you even though we will be be pleased to be with our family! So, from us, have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Meredith have been honored to serve as your Presidents, and are blessed to be a part of the Maranatha community!

Johnnie Romo Christmas Gift: A message from Bob Russell

Bob Russell has asked me to let all Maranatha members know that you have an opportunity to share in this Christmas season by giving a gift to Johnnie Romo. You know that Johnnie is a member of our class who also resides in our sponsored apartment at Exodus House. On Tuesday, December 14th, Exodus House will have its annual Christmas Party, and you can help Johnnie through a gift as he continues to rebuild his life. If you wish to give Johnnie a modest gift of any sort, then you can bring it to class this Sunday for Bob to handle on your behalf or you can make a direct arrangement with Bob Russell before next Tuesday. Any questions, contact Bob please.

Thank you, and I look forward to seeing you at the Christmas Party then again on Sunday!

Updated information – James Killman’s mother

Karen Campbell has updated information regarding the death of James Killman’s mother:

"His mother’s name is Ann Kilman and she’s been a member of BAUMC for the past six years upon moving to Tulsa to be near James, her only surviving child.

Mrs. Kilman experienced some severe leg pain two weeks ago and they continued to seek out the problem. They were unable to find any problem, until last Friday when she was unable to stand up and her vitals were in bad shape. She was rushed to the hospital, where it was determined her condition was very grave and she passed away a short time later.

Her services are scheduled for Friday, December 10 at 2 PM at Boston Avenue Church. Both James and Denise are very active in the Chancel Choir and their bereavement committee is coordinating a luncheon before the services. I have left a message for the coordinator to contact me if there is some way Maranatha might be of assistance. I will let you know the response.

I will send a card to James and Denise expressing our sympathies.

Karen"

Message from David Carpenter, his Mother’s Memorial Service

"Dear Maranatha Class,

Due to work schedules of one of Mom’s granddaughters, we are moving the Memorial Service for my mother to December 29th at 11:00.

We are blessed to be surrounded by such a caring faith community, and while the short run will be difficult and painful for those of us left behind to carry on, we rest assured of the final triumph of our Lord and the salvation He promises for all His children.

God bless you all.

David Carpenter"
