Subject: News to Share with Sunday School Classes!
First off, here is the Easter Schedule for this year:
- Easter Eve Service 4pm Saturday, March 31
- Easter Sunrise Service in the park 6:30am, Sunday, April 1
- Easter Services in the Sanctuary 9am and 11am, Sunday, April 1
- 13th Street Worship in Jubilee at 11am, Sunday, April 1
- Sunday School 10-10:45am, Sunday, April 1
I did find out that the reason why the Easter Services are at 9am and 11am rather than 8:30am and 11am is because it was thought that if we’re going to have two services most folks (nodding towards visitors) don’t want to come early…and having it at 9am gave time for the musicians and the choir to take a breather rather than having services at 9:30am and 11am. We are going down to the two services to continue to build more momentum in the worship and gain greater energy! So please spread this word of the Easter Schedule for this year!
Secondly – here is the schedule of the Unity services that will be happening this year! I also found out that these are special for this year only as they are part of our 125th Anniversary Celebration…so again we want to build momentum and energy as a full worshipping body together. This is not the beginning of the end of the 8:30am service – I double checked that and it was confirmed 😉 But this does give some great opportunities to have kids and our youth on the TV which helps to change the public perception of our congregation as well since they’re usually not in the sanctuary during 11am worship! So please make sure that yall communicate these worship services out to your classes – Sunday School hour will stay the same but there will be no 8:30am worship on these Sundays.
- April 22, 2018 – God Made All Things New Music Service (worship shown on TV will be the Easter Eve service led by the children because we were already bumped on this Sunday for TV time…)
- July 1, 2018 – Patriotic Service with all VBS participants singing, plus Chancel Choir
- August 26, 2018 – Legacy Service with both Chapel & Chancel Choirs
- September 23, 2018 – State of the Church Service with all Children’s, Chapel and Chancel Choirs singing
- October 28, 2018 – Brush Arbor Bash Service with Chapel singing and Sistema accompanying
- November 11, 2018 – 125th Anniversary Service with Chapel and Chancel Choirs singing
Lastly, with the potential teacher walkout on April 2, many support staff in schools will be without jobs and without pay as long as the walkout continues since they are hourly employees. Our partner school of Burroughs Elementary reached out to our congregation to find ways to support their support staff (custodians, cafeteria workers, secretaries, nurses, etc). One of those ways we are seeking to be in partnership with our partner school is to compile a list of temp jobs that are available that support staff can apply for in the case of a teacher walkout. If you have a temp job available at your business or know of someone else who would, please fill out this form. All of the information is going to come to me (Rev. Sara Pugh Montgomery) so that I can compile the list of temp jobs and then send it to the principal over at Burroughs. She will give it to the support staff and they will call folks as needed. If we get enough jobs, we’ll also send it around to the support staff from our partner schools with Sistema. The support staff of these schools are on board with the teacher walkout and stand beside their colleagues…but it will come at a huge cost to them. Let’s help them continue to support our teachers and make sure that they’ll still be able to make an income no matter how long the walkout lasts. Please send out this google docs link to folks in your Sunday School classes so that we can start compiling that list! We’ll cut it off on Wednesday, March 28 so that I can have a day to put the list together and send it on over to Burroughs! Feel free to share this and let me know if you have any questions!
