Maranatha newsletter for May 6

Dear Maranatha friends,

Many thanks to Dr. Ruth Weston for the first lesson in her two-week series entitled, “Protestant Perspectives on Mary.” You can hear a recording of her presentation at http://www.bostonavenue.org/uploads/media/audio/180506maranatha.mp3.

Dr. Weston will conclude her series this Sunday, then Rabbi Charles Sherman will teach us the following week, May 20. We will join Pilgrimage, Journey and Amy Venable’s Bible Study Class in the sanctuary that day. There will be no refreshments or class business – just a brief introduction at 9:45 so that Rabbi Sherman can have most of the hour to teach.

CLASS ANNOUNCEMENTS

Thanks to Richard Wansley for leading us in prayer, and to the Wansleys and Solomons for our snacks. William Meyer will lead us in prayer this Sunday and the Griffins and Roses will be our hosts.

Happy Anniversary to Mike and Laura Daniel and Roger and Charlotte Rowe! We had no birthdays this week.

A love offering was taken Sunday for Clarkie Williams’ brother Freddie, who is having a benefit for his Alzheimer’s treatment in Pine Bluff AR on May 19. She hopes to attend the event with her son, and we would like to help her with expenses for the trip. If you were not in class Sunday and would like to help, talk to Rick Evans.

The Drillers’ party, an auction item, has been rescheduled for Friday, July 6. If you bought that party and are unable to attend, be sure to invite someone else to attend in your place. Please don’t discard your old tickets until you hear from Mickey Maus.

Our Christmas party and auction is set for December 14.

Karen Campbell reported that our class will honor Wesley Fellowship Class with a brunch in the Asbury Room on Sunday, May 27. Wesley Fellowship will officially join the Homebuilders Class on July 1. Sign up Sunday if you can bring something that day.

A memorial service for Angie’s mom, Lou Ann Dale, will be held this Tuesday May 15, at 11:00 a.m. Pour class will provide a luncheon for the family after the service, at about 1:00 p.m. Please contact Allene Donley or Sharon Earley if you are interested in helping provide food.

Rick and Roger praised Angie for the excellent work she is doing on the Strategic Process Review for our church.
