Maranatha news email for July 8-15

Greetings, Maranatha friends-

Hope your week is off to a good start. Rev. Sarah Pugh Montgomery will be our teacher this Sunday and next, July 15 and 22. Her topic is, “HOW WE WORSHIP GOD: PRAYING WITH SCRIPTURE.” It promises to be a great series.

Many thanks to Rev. Susanna Weslie Southard for her challenging lessons on Esther and Judith the past two Sundays. You can hear her presentations, and all of our past lessons, at .

Welcome to our guests/honorary members, Carlene Tallent and Kate Staat Barnes.

Happy birthday to Patty Banes on July 8th and Frieda Reck on July 11th!Happy anniversary to Dave and Carol Grim on July 8th and Gary and Patti Smith on July 9th!

Thanks to Sharon Chucoski, who filled in for Jimmy Berg to lead us in prayer last week, and to Mickey and Carol Maus and Ed and Judith Payton for our snacks. Bruce Chucoski will give our prayer this Sunday, and our hosts will be Ginny and Jerry LeDoux and “S. Morgan.” (Scott and Suzy, I hope you know which one of you that is!)

Our friend Jimmy Berg was hit by a car as he stepped off a curb after the fireworks show on July 4. In addition to a road burn on his chest and four staples in his head, he sustained a back injury and is in a brace for six weeks. Please remember him and Walter in your prayers. Cards can be sent to him at their home address, 6902 S Houston Tulsa, OK 74132.

After watching our class in action supporting the Staat family last Thursday, I have to wonder what people do who don’t have a faith community. You are a blessing! Please continue to keep the family in your prayers.

Pam Sherman’s 17-year-old grandson is getting to play in an invitation baseball competition in Arkansas.

Glenna Arnott asked for prayers for the family of Doug Palmer, who died of cancer last week, and especially for his friend Nancy Daugherty.

We continue to remember the boys who are being rescued from the cave in Thailand, and to pray that all are brought out safely.

Please continue to remember Jennifer Hall in your prayers as she battles cancer.

Thanks to all who volunteered to read with children at Project Transformation yesterday. We also provided lunch for the leaders, and snacks for the 65 students in PT.

Please remember that July is Mission Month, and Maranatha has been challenged to provide 22 snack packs for the Cookson Mission near Tahlequah. Please bring one or more to class this Sunday, if you can. The packs should include: Individual Dry Milk & Hot Chocolate Packages, Beef Jerky, Single Serving Cereal, Small Bags of Peanuts, Small Bags of Cheese Nips or Gold Fish, Non-perishable Lunchables, Ramen Noodles, Easy Open Soups and Meals, String Cheese, Vienna Sausage, Tuna or Chicken in Pouches, Individual Drink Flavor Packages, Peanut Butter & Cheese Crackers, and Pudding and Apple Sauce Cups

Volunteers are also needed to help host Family Promise July 29-August 4 and again August 26 to September 1. Please sign up or contact Richard Wansley if you are interested. Training will be provided as needed. Richard has more information, and information about the ministry is available on their website.

We will serve dinner at the Day Center for the Homeless on August 10.

Other future mission opportunities are listed on the board, and lists are available on the check-in desk.

Hope you can join us to eat lunch together at Mexicali Border Café on Sunday, July 22nd, then go back to the church to see this year’s Broadway at B.A. production, Guys and Dolls. Text or email Scott Morgan if you want him to get a ticket for you, or you can call or stop by the church to purchase your own ticket.

The potluck picnic and Bluegrass Concert at Keystone State Park has been rescheduled for August 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Please bring a side dish to share and chicken will be provided. The cost of the chicken, if you haven’t already paid, is $5. More details later as they become available.

Blessings to all of you – We look forward to seeing you Sunday!
