Maranatha news for November 18-24

HAPPY THANKSGIVING, MARANATHA! –

I hate to start this email with sad news, but need to let you know that our former classmate, Mark Jennings, died this week after a year-long battle with cancer. His funeral will be held this Friday, November 23, at 12:30 p.m. at Schaudt’s Funeral Home, just south of Memorial Park on Memorial. Amy Venable will officiate and a reception will follow the service.

Many thanks to our Maranatha Mission Team and Ed Payton for his great report last Sunday, and to Rev. EvaMarie Campbell for teaching us. If you missed her lesson, you can hear it and any of our previous lessons at http://www.bostonavenue.org/maranatha.html .

This Sunday we will enjoy a Thanksgiving brunch. We know some great food is coming! If you didn’t get a chance to sign up, bring a breakfast item of your choice and come join us!

Our annual Advent series, taught by our own class members, will begin the following Sunday, December 2.

CLASS ANNOUNCEMENTS

Welcome to our guests, Molleigh MCann and returning visitor Karen Tinley!

We have no birthdays or anniversaries this week.

A big “thank you!” to Dave Grim for agreeing to be our class president next year, and to the Chucoskis for stepping up to be Vice Presidents of Missions. All we lack now is an email news reporter and a prayer coordinator. We’re getting close!

Pam Low is working to update our class roster. Please be sure to respond to her email and let her know if you need to change any information. She also needs to hear from you if everything is ok.

Thanks to Michael Dishman for sharing a prayer last Sunday, and to Ed and Judith Payton and Mickey and Carol Maus for our snacks. Scott Morgan will have our prayer next week at the brunch.

MISSIONS:

Our annual Christmas Party and Auction is December 14 at Tulsa Country Club. Cost to attend is $50 per person, and you can assign a proxy for the auction if you cannot attend. Auctioneers Scott Gardner and Jim McCann need your auction items soon, and they hope to have as many items as possible. Please get your information sheets to them quickly so that a list of auction items can be published before the party. All proceeds go to missions!

Disbursements: Our class voted to give $2,000 to Restore Hope, and $1,000 each to Cookson Hills Mission, and the Port Arthur mission where our mission team stayed at no cost. We will also give $1,000 to our senior high youth department for a 100” projection system.

Redemption Church: Dave Grim passed a signup sheet for volunteers to serve dinner on November 25. He also needs people to bring a pie or cake. Sharon Earley passed a signup sheet to provide gifts for the children there.

SOCIALS:

Remember the five class party dates for next year, and please don’t plan any auction item parties on these dates. We want to avoid any conflicts! These dates are:

February 3, 2019 – Super Bowl Party April 6, 2019 – Progressive Dinner

June 14, 2019 – Potluck Dinner & Trivia Event

August 16, 2019 – Diner Dinner & Movie at B.A. – Hamburgers & Hot Dogs in the Diner & a movie in the Theater

November 8, 2019 – Pizza Dinner & Bunco

JOYS AND CONCERNS – Please keep these in your prayers:

John Sherman lost two friends to death last week. He and Pam are expecting their second great grandchild soon.

Glenna Arnott’s friend, Pam Smith, has passed away.

Bill Moss, father of former District Superintendent Danny Moss, passed away last week.

Congratulatios to the Bundrens on their daughter Kara’s wedding.

Debbie Jacoby is dealing with two major health issues – Crohn’s Disease and a brain injury. She cannot have visitors now, but she needs our prayers and cards.

Barbara Meehan’s cousin’s surviving husband is near death. She is also celebrating the birth of her second grandchild, Leo Isaac Shelby, son of her daughter and son-in-law, Erin and Ike Shelby.

Hope you have much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving! See you Sunday –

– Shari
