Maranatha news email for December 9-15

Greetings, Maranatha –

CHRISTMAS PARTY AND AUCTION THIS FRIDAY! Be sure to get a proxy to bid for you if you cannot attend.

MARANATHA LESSONS:

Thanks to Ken Privett for his interesting Advent lesson last Sunday.. If you missed hearing it, you can find it and other previous lessons at http://www.bostonavenue.org/maranatha.html .

Pam Low will teach us this Sunday, and we’re looking forward to hearing her. She will be followed by Carol Maus on December 23rd.

CLASS ANNOUNCEMENTS

Happy birthday to Susan Leonard and Laurie Spencer on December 11th, Gabriele Blankenship and Scott Gardner on the 13th, and Barbara Meehan and Stuart Solomn on the 14th.

We still need volunteers to do our newsletter email next year. It’s not a difficult job – especially If you team up with someone so you don’t need to do it every week! Contact Roger or Rick if you’re willing to help.

Thanks to Clifford Webster for our prayer last Sunday, and to Susan Hamilton and Pam Sherman for our snacks. Kendall Carpenter will pray for us this week and the Manduaos (guilty/cleanup) and Maldonados (healthy/setup) will host.

Chancel Choir will present Handel’s MESSIAH this Sunday at 5:00 p.m. with members of the Tulsa Symphony Orchestra and area soloists. The Sistema Tulsa Orchestra will play at the beginning of the evening. It’s always fun to experience the great music, and the sanctuary filled to the very top! Hope you can come.

MISSIONS:

The Exodus House Christmas Party is tomorrow, December 11, at 6:30 at Exodus House. All are welcome to come support Amber, our resident. Please let Sharon Earley know if you plan to attend.

Thanks to everyone who helped with the Neighbor for Neighbor Christmas Party – we had a great group and the event was well organized!

Auctioneers Scott Gardner and Jim McCann need your Christmas Auction item information today! They plan to send out a list of live auction items on Wednesday for those who can’t attend and want to use a proxy.

Auction trivia: This is the 25th year for our Christmas auction. Over the years, our class has raised over a quarter of a million for missions – $281,000 to be exact! Thanks for your generosity!

Work Area on Missions’ Chili Cookoff will be January 10 (a week after the Super Bowl). Our class needs to provide a basket to be auctioned and a chili chef contestant. Can you help?

JOYS AND CONCERNS:

*** Our friend Debbie Jacoby was hospitalized last week due to a low blood count. That low count is keeping her from having the surgery she needs to stop the colon bleed, which is causing the low blood count – a vicious cycle. She is back at Villages at Southern Hills and continues to be confined to a darkened room to let her brain rest. When she is released from Villages, she will be moving to Montereau, but her current address, if you would like to send a card, is:

Debbie Jacoby, Villages of Southern Hills, room 1207, 5721 S Lewis Ave, Tulsa 74105

Valerie Grogan is continuing to improve and hopes to work half days this week.

Congratulations to Amber Young and Jerry Harris on their upcoming wedding! A love offering was taken for them Sunday.

Glenna Arnott’s friend recently lost her son to death, which make Glenna suggest that we all remember those who are facing this holiday “with pieces of their hearts missing.”

Ken Privett’s friend Linda’s tumors are reappearing.

John Sherman had torn tendons in his back and shoulders and may need surgery.

Roger and Charlotte Rowe’s son-in-law Colin lost his grandmother recently.

Jimmy Berg will be involved with the Christmas parade this Saturday.

Walter Berg suggested we pray for our church and for Camp Egan.
