Volunteer Opportunity

All,

Brenda Worthington advises that we have a volunteer opportunity this Sunday, August 5th. Restore Hope Ministries will be putting together school supply kits in the afternoon from 1:30-4:30 for distribution beginning Monday, August 6th. Address is 2960 Charles Page Blvd., Tulsa, Oklahoma 74127. In all, they need about 30 people willing to donate an afternoon to this worthwhile cause. We are not being asked to fill all 30 slots, but there will be plenty of room for any and all comers from Maranatha. No need to sign up – just show up.

This is a perfect opportunity for those people who want to volunteer but don’t have time on a regular basis.

Update regarding Julie Allen

Julie continues to make progress with breathing treatments and other procedures related to her pneumonia. Both Rebecca and Taylor are in town and present at the hospital.

Because of the setup of Julie’s room at the hospital, there is no place for visitors to be with her. Jeff told me that they have plenty of snack food and the like. For now, our best expression of love and care for Julie is to remember her in prayer throughout the day and the days ahead, and be sure to greet her face-to-face when she recovers and returns to class. If a need is expressed, I will get in touch with our Caranatha team for response.

Julie Allen

Jeff let me know that Julie has been running a fever off and on since Friday, and he took her to the doctor yesterday. They discovered she has pneumonia. She is in a "staging" room at St. John’s as they are full.

At this time, they simply need our prayers for Julie. Since Julie doesn’t yet have a room, there is nowhere to visit her, and we probably would not be helpful spreading germs right now anyway.

As more facts are available, we will update this note.

Maranatha news for July 15-21

Greetings, friends-

So …. Here’s the latest Maranatha news this week:

Rev. Sarah Pugh Montgomery’s first lesson was great! She helped us explore how creation worships God and how we worship, and she reminded us that worship is about God, not us. She will teach us again this Sunday, July 22, on “PRAYING WITH SCRIPTURE.” You won’t want to miss it!

If you missed last Sunday’s lesson, you can hear it and all of our past lessons at http://www.bostonavenue.org/maranatha.html .

CLASS ANNOUNCEMENTS

We have a new member! Michael Dishman took Rick up on his “membership discount” last Sunday, and we are glad to welcome him. There’s a chance he may be greeting with his friend, Wanda Williams, this Sunday morning – if so, it’ll be a great opportunity to welcome him in person!

The deadline has been extended to next Sunday for all who are willing to bring items for snack packs for the Cookson Hills Mission Center. Cookson serves some of Oklahoma’s poorest people, and they have a critical need for food items to keep area children from going hungry. You’ll find a list of needed items under “Mission news” at the end of this email.

Happy birthday to Darlene Lorenz on July 16th, Steve Jacoby on the 18th, and Mark Butterworth on the 20th! Happy anniversary to Judith and Ed Payton on July 17th, and to Carol and Mickey Maus on the 19th!

Rick shared very nice thank-you notes from Mary Staat and from the Staat family for our class’s support after Paul’s death, and from Angie Dale for our support at her mother’s memorial service.

Thanks also to Dave Grim for organizing our reading day at Project Transformation, and to all who volunteered to read and helped provide food.

Ed Payton announced that our church’s missions committee is looking to add a long-term national missions partner, like the international partnership we have with Bolivia. This partner should be within driving distance and offer projects that involve all ages. Please share any ideas with Ed.

Ed is also still collecting names of class members who are interested in going to do reconstruction work in Houston this fall.

All are invited to play in Restore Hope’s 12th Annual Golf Tournament on September 10 at Forest Ridge.

Thanks to Bruce Chucoski for leading us in prayer last week, and to Ginny and Jerry LeDoux and Scott and Debra Morgan for our snacks. Pam Sherman will give our prayer this Sunday, and our hosts will be Wanda Williams (guilty/set up) and Becky Morris (healthy/clean up).

Jimmy Berg – resent

For some reason, this email did not make it to everyone. If you already received it yesterday, sorry for the "spam".

Sent at 1255pm Thursday:

Carol and Mickey Maus just left St. Francis after visiting Jimmy Berg. He was hit by an SUV last night after the fireworks. He needed 4 staples in his head and had a road burn on his chest. He should go home tomorrow and would appreciate cards mailed to his home address, 6902 S Houston Tulsa, OK 74132. He will be wearing a back brace for 5 weeks. He will not be able to say the prayer on Sunday, however he volunteered to say the prayer in October for the class.

Carol and Mickey – thanks for gathering this information and sharing with all of us.

Rick

p.s. Sharon Chucoski accepted my request to fill in for Jimmy giving the opening prayer this coming Sunday.
