Maranatha news for May 20-26

Dear Maranatha friends,

What a great morning we had with Dr. Mouzon Biggs as our teacher! I hope you all enjoyed hearing him as much as I did. You can hear recordings of his presentation, and all of our lessons, at http://www.bostonavenue.org/maranatha.html .

CLASS ANNOUNCEMENTS

Because we met in the sanctuary, we didn’t have snacks or a prayer by one of our members last week. We also didn’t hear class announcements or joys and concerns, so this week’s email will be short and sweet.

This Sunday we are meeting with Wesley Fellowship Class and hosting a brunch for them at 9:45 in the Asbury Room. We hope you can come help honor them before they join the Homebuilders Class on July 1. Many signed up to bring a particular dish but feel free to come and bring something of your choice even if you didn’t get to sign up.

Happy birthday to Clark Bundren last Sunday, to Angie Dale and Bill Gertson on the 22nd and to Jane Smith on the 25th! Congratulations to Rick and Melanie Evans and to Rex and Allene Donley, who are celebrating anniversaries this week.

UPCOMING CLASS EVENTS:

Thursday, May 24 – Our class will help with the Compassion Dinner again.

Thursday, May 31 – Class social with live music at Tulsa Botanical Garden

Thursday, June 7 – Utica Square Fifth Night Party, 6:30 (auction item)

June 24, 3:00-7:00 p.m. – Class potluck picnic at Keystone State Park with fried chicken provided. Dave Shepherd’s bluegrass band will play and there will be games and great fellowship.

JOYS AND CONCERNS:

Please continue to keep Jennifer Hall in your prayers. Her cancer has spread to her brain. If you would like to send a card, she is staying with her daughter, Samantha Slater, at 120 W Sequoyah Avenue, Oologah OK 74053. You can also email her at nannyhall.

Thanks for all you mean to our class! We’ll look forward to seeing you Sunday in the Asbury Room.

Maranatha news for May 13-19

Dear Maranatha friends,

CHANGE OF PLANS FOR THIS SUNDAY! Rabbi Charles Sherman was to be our teacher, but he has had an emergency that requires him to be out of town. Instead, we have a wonderful opportunity to hear our own Dr. Mouzon Biggs! Please keep Rabbi Sherman in your prayers – he promises to reschedule after the summer.

We will still join Pilgrimage, Journey and Amy Venable’s Bible Study Class in the sanctuary Sunday, and will not have refreshments or class business. Please plan to check in at the back of the sanctuary when you arrive, then sit in one of the two south sections, as close to the front as possible. Rick will introduce Dr. Biggs promptly at 9:45, then he will have most of the hour to teach. It will be a great morning!

Many thanks to Dr. Ruth Weston for her thought-provoking series on Mary the past two weeks. You can hear recordings of her presentations, and all of our lessons, at http://www.bostonavenue.org/maranatha.html .

JOYS AND CONCERNS:

Bob Russell had surgery yesterday and is now recovering.

Our prayers go out to Jennifer Hall, whose cancer has now spread to her brain, and whose mother, Margaret Rose Lamb, passed away this week. Margaret’s service will be held tomorrow morning at 10:00 in the sanctuary. If you would like to send a card, she is staying with her daughter, Samantha Slater, at 120 W Sequoyah Avenue, Oologah OK 74053. You can also email her at nannyhall.

Bethany Willyard is really in need of a job.

Bruce Chucoski’s sister in Oklahoma City is dealing with blood clot issues.

Jennifer Hall’s Mother

It is with sadness that we report the passing of Jennifer Hall’s mother Margaret Rose Lamb, who passed away this week. Her service is tomorrow – Thursday, May 17th – at Boston Avenue in Rose Chapel and will be a small service without a reception. The only thing the family has asked is prayers for the loss of Margaret as well as for Jennifer.
Jennifer’s cancer has spread to tumors on the brain. They are now treating her with cyber knife. Because of the care that Jennifer needs at this time, since she cannot drive or stay by herself during treatment, her daughter Samantha Slater has moved her into her home.

If you would like to send a card to Jennifer, please send it to Samantha Slater’s address 120 West Sequoyah Ave, Oologah, OK 74053-3018. Jennifer can also be reached via e-mail at nannyhall.

Please join us in keeping Jennifer and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
