Dear Maranatha friends,

You’ll be happy to know that our Maranatha mission team has been working hard and accomplishing good things for people in Port Arthur, Texas (a suburb of Beaumont), in spite of challenging heat and humidity. They divided into two teams, and I hear that one has been painting and laying manufactured flooring in one house while the other has done sheetrock work and other improvements for a lady who has been keeping foster children, but who hasn’t been able to do that since the hurricane. Thanks to our team, she will hopefully get to resume that ministry soon. The team will finish working tomorrow, then will drive home on Friday. Let’s all them in our prayers.

We were out of town Sunday, and I hear we missed a great lesson by Ted Hinson! If you missed it too, you can hear it, and any of our previous lessons, at http://www.bostonavenue.org/maranatha.html .

Paula Gradney-Garner will teach us this Sunday, Novemer 11th, which is also our church’s 125th Anniversary celebration. It promises to be a great day! Come enjoy a great worship service (and bring a new jar of peanut butter for Restore Hope, if you can); then after the service, see the newly remodeled parlor and enjoy anniversary cake in Community Hall. There will also be a special anthem that was purchased in memory of Larry Dean, our former Director of Music.

Rev. EvaMarie Campbell will teach us on the 18th, then we will enjoy a Thanksgiving brunch on the 25th. Our annual Advent series, taught by our own class members, will begin the first Sunday in December.

CLASS ANNOUNCEMENTS

Welcome to our new class members, Stefanie and Rick Kelly! We’re so happy to have you!

Welcome also to Maranatha alumni Ray and Mary Adams, and to our speaker, Ted Hinson, and his wife Pat.

Happy birthday to Rob Davis yesterday, the 6th; to Janet Purinton and Judith Payton today, the 7th; and to Bob and Bill Thomas on the 9th!

Rick and Roger are still working to fill the slate of class officers for next year. The only remaining openings are president, vice president-missions, and news email. Please consider how you might serve.

Thanks to Janet Purinton for leading our prayer and dedication of our mission team Sunday, and to the Shermans and Chucoskis for our snacks. Susan Day will have our prayer this Sunday, and Suzy Morgan (setup/guilty) and the Butterworths (cleanup/healthy) will be our hosts.

MISSIONS:

Scott Gardner talked about our annual Christmas Party and Auction on December 14. He and Jim McCann are hosting, and they would like to have as many auction items as possible. Please think about what you might donate and get your information sheets to him or Jim as soon as possible. All proceeds go to missions!

Dave Grim needs volunteers to serve dinner at Redemption Church on November 25. He also needs people to bring a pie or cake

Kendall Carpenter reminded everyone that we have another $5,000 to disburse. Please give her any suggestions as soon as possible, and she will bring a recommendation to class soon.

Our Christmas party for Neighbor for Neighbor is December 6.

Five dates have been set for class parties in 2019. Please put them on your calendar now, and don’t plan any auction item parties on these dates. We want to avoid any conflicts! These dates are:

August 16 – Diner Dinner & Movie at B.A. – Hamburgers & Hot Dogs in the Diner & a movie in the Theater

JOYS AND CONCERNS – Please keep these in your prayers:

Amber Young, our Exodus House Apartment M resident, shared all the ways she has been helped and thanked our class.

Please remember the family in Beggs that was devastated after the mother killed her son and older daughter. A 14-year-old daughter survived.

Kraemer was to have an MRI on Monday.

The Chucoski’s son and daughter-in-law are expecting a baby girl.

Denzil Tallent’s four-year cancer checkup was all clear.

Gwen’s grandson will have a bone marrow biopsy next week in California for leukemia.

Kate Staat Barnes’ mother-in-law was admitted to rehab to recover from complications from a stroke.

Remember Debbie Jacoby as she recovers from her multiple health problems.

Jennifer Hall is still battling cancer.

Since Debbie Jacoby contacted me yesterday with news for the class and a prayer request, we have been working up the following wording:

While in Turks and Caicos at her daughter Shannon’s wedding through Oct. 28, she was taken to the emergency room because blood loss, due to a bowel blockage, had caused her to faint. She missed the wedding reception and does not, sadly, remember the wedding.

She also suffered a NEW head injury/concussion at the Miami airport on her trip back to Tulsa on Sunday. A woman in a hurry had pushed open a door strongly, with the handle of the door knocking into Debbie, seated. Debbie was even knocked “out” briefly.

Upon arrival back in Tulsa, Debbie went directly to St. Francis Hospital ER and was admitted to the Neuroscience floor. Her blockage was due to Crohn’s disease, which had only been discovered in August, with the colon blockage in her left lower quadrant and bleeding in her colon. She had two blood transfusions this past week. The colon blockage will likely require surgery in the near future, pending the resolution of conflicts with medication interactions, the stabilization of her head injury, and her gaining back some strength. After five days in the hospital she was moved to the Villages Skilled Nursing Subacute care for head trauma this weekend, where she can lay down with ice packs to her head enabling her body to heal and her brain to rest and heal from the concussion, but also have physical therapy. She is extremely weak and therefore not up to visitors. She hopes to be strong enough by Friday or Saturday to be released to go home to continue her recovery there.

She asks for your prayers for a speedy recovery so she can go home soon. She hopes to know more soon about when, or whether, to ask for help with meals from Caranatha.

We had a glitch on gmail involving a previously-sent message regarding the need for help at Restore Hope. Apologies if you have previously received this information, but it appears most of you did not.

Brenda Worthington has advised that Restore Hope needs additional people to help with the registration of families for Thanksgiving baskets. Registration will take place from November 5th – 10th at the Main location and on November 13th at the south location.
