Maranatha news for November 25 – December 1

Greetings, Maranatha –

Great food, great fellowship – We had a wonderful brunch last Sunday! Thanks to all who brought the delicious food.

This Sunday begins our Advent series taught by our own class members – a highlight of the Advent season each year! Jerry LeDoux will teach us this week. He will be followed by Ken Privett on December 9th, Pam Low on December 16th, and Carol Maus on December 23rd.

If you would like to hear any of our previous lessons, you can find them at http://www.bostonavenue.org/maranatha.html . Barbara Meehan has posted EvaMarie Campbell’s lesson on kindness from two weeks ago, but she did not include information about church security, since some of it was sensitive.

CLASS ANNOUNCEMENTS

Happy birthday to Sandi Gardner on November 25th, Patti Smith and Lynn Goodwin on the 26th, and Rex Donley on the 30th!

The only opening left on our 2019 slate of officers is a class news email editor. This is not a difficult job – please contact Rick or Roger if you are willing to help.

Dave Grim needs volunteers to help at the Neighbor for Neighbor Christmas Party next Thursday, December 6. This event is always lots of fun.

Sharon Earley still has just a couple children at Redemption Church who need Christmas gifts. All gifts for those children need to be returned by Sunday, December 9, in order for the children to receive them at the party. Suggested amount is $25-$35. Please contact Sharon if you did not get a child’s name and would like to help.

Thanks to Scott Morgan for giving our prayer last Sunday. Shari Goodwin will have our prayer this week and Wanda Williams (guilty/setup) and Glenna Arnott (healthy/clean up) will host.

MISSIONS:

Our annual Christmas Party and Auction is coming up on December 14 at Tulsa Country Club. Cost to attend is $50 per person, but please don’t stay away if that amount poses a hardship for you. Just contact Susie Butterworth – there are funds to help. If you can’t attend the party, you can assign a proxy to bid for you for the auction. Auctioneers Scott Gardner and Jim McCann need your auction item info ASAP. Please get your information sheets to them quickly so that a list of auction items can be published before the party. All proceeds go to missions!

JOYS AND CONCERNS –

Valerie Grogan, Kendall and David Carpenter’s daughter, has been hospitalized for blood clots in her lungs. She is improving, but please keep her in your prayers.

Scott Morgan shared that he told EvaMarie Campbell about an editorial on kindness by David Boren in Sunday’s newspaper.

Debbie Jacoby is still having to be in a darkened room as her brain recovers from recent trauma. She would really appreciate prayers and cards.

Please respond directly to me at smorgan or text me at (918) 640-4068. I will let the class know when we have volunteers.

Correction to 2019 Social Calendar

An email with the 2019 Social Calendar was sent out on November 3rd. The pizza and bunco party scheduled for November 2019 was correctly listed for the 8th. However the 8th is a Friday not Saturday as listed.

Kate Bowler event

Classmates,

With all of the announcements and wonderful slides from our Texas mission team, I failed to cover this topic on Sunday. There is a community education event on November 29 that is worthy of your consideration. Susan Rose recommends attending. Please give it a look.

Update from Debbie Jacoby

Hi, Maranatha –

Below is a new update from our friend, Debbie Jacoby. Please remember her in your prayers. She needs our support with cards as well, until she returns home and we can do more for her.:

I am in skilled nursing at The Villages, room 504, until the 20th. I’m receiving PT until I can walk without fainting from the head injury. Then I will go to assisted living here until the latest severe head injury heals. They anticipate a couple of weeks – then HOPEFULLY I will be fully independent again, if my head injury can heal and I can return to my pre-recent-latest head injury status.

I would appreciate prayers and cards. I am currently in a darkened room with limited brain stimulation while my brain rests and heals, and receiving a couple of hours of PT each day. They are still trying to determine if I need to have a portion of my colon removed from the internal bleeding, but I am praying every day that God will simply heal the colon…. and I think HE might. Steve has been a source of support. My girls have BOTH been VERY LOVING AND SUPPORTIVE and the doctors have explained to them these are MEDICAL conditions and they FINALLY, finally understand. Thank goodness.
All of my family is now totally supportive, thank goodness. The prayers last week helped so much.

I ask for your prayers for continued healing so I can be self sufficient and independent and healthy once again soon. I want to live alone and travel again soon. Plus I miss my dog, Mr Tucker.

Thanks – Debbie

Donation Requests

Rick advises that the donation requests were forwarded to the class this week. Please note that these are not requests for the class to donate but rather for individual donations:

  1. Oklahoma Methodist Manor continues to provide care to those who are no longer able to pay for that care. Currently 22% of the residents of the long-term care households are benefiting from the OMM Supplemental Aid Fund. This need will exceed $250,000 in 2018. If you would like to assist these seniors in need, please note “supplemental aid fund” on your check and mail your donation to:

Oklahoma Methodist Manor

4134 East 31st St.

Tulsa 74135

  1. Restore Hope Ministries has been challenged to raise $100,000 above apportionments from U. M. churches by December 31. If successful, the George Kaiser Family Foundation will match those gifts. To qualify your donation for matching, send your donation to the church with a note on the memo line stating “for Restore Hope”. Our finance office will add your donation to others and send a qualifying check to Restore Hope.
  2. Restore Hope is also requesting sponsorships for Thanksgiving baskets ($35) and Christmas family sponsorships of varying denominations. Please send your donations to:

Restore Hope Ministries
