Brunch/Sunday School class starts at 9:30 am this Sunday

All,

Just a quick reminder that our brunch/Sunday School class will be starting at 9:30am this Sunday. The time change is due to the multiple services that Boston Avenue is offering this Sunday for Easter weekend. Please see attached for the different sermons.

In addition to our fellowship, Dave Grim (Maranatha Finance Chairman) will be discussing our first distributions for 2016.

Always in Peace,

Jim

Jeff Allen’s mother, Doris Allen

Maranatha, from Jeff Allen:

I just wanted to let the class know that my mother, Doris Allen, passed away in her sleep yesterday morning. She was such a wonderful lady that will be missed my many.

We do not need anything at this time.

Thank you,

Jeff

Maranatha Newsletter

Hey, friends:

Attached you will find this week’s newsletter, sent out at the proper time since I did not have to wander around the country to provide my fingerprints to the Border Patrol agents. The things we do for our children! Here are a few things to note this week:

***Our next social event promises to be an evening of great fun and frolic! On Friday, April 1st, we will gather at the church for a potluck dinner and a Maranatha Minute To Win It Tournament! It should be loads of laughter for those participating in the crazy challenges and even more hilarity for those watching! Don’t miss out on a wild evening! If you won’t be in class to sign up, please email me at adale to let me know that you are coming and what you will bring as your potluck item. We will definitely have more fun if YOU are there!

***Jim and I will be in class on Sunday, but will be gone after that to visit Molleigh. Back by popular demand, Jim Embrey has graciously agreed to lead the class on Easter Sunday and to produce the editions of the newsletter for Sunday, 3/20, and Sunday, 3/27, until we return. We are very grateful to him for doing so.

***Hayley St. John, the new Director of Communications for BAUMC, visited our class to hand out a survey regarding how each of us connects best with BAUMC and what she can do to hone the communication methods. Surveys will continue to be available in class, or you can complete your survey online by clicking on https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/BostonAveCommunication. Remember, your voice counts, so use it!

Have a great week and know that you are appreciated, enjoyed and admired by your class members.

Maranatha Newsletter

Hey, friends:

I am so sorry that the newsletter is late this week. Jim and I had to go to St. Louis to be interviewed by the Customs and Border Patrol agents as part of our efforts to visit Molleigh in Brazil. You will be pleased to know that the FBI agrees with us that we are neither wanted criminals nor have any criminal background. How comforting.

A few things to note this week:

***Please remember to set your clocks ahead one hour on Saturday night for Daylight Savings Time. You won’t want to miss Janet Purinton’s lesson on "Giving Up The Bad Things For Lent."

***Julie Allen has written a powerful letter to the Maranatha Class regarding how we can support her in her fight against Parkinson’s Disease. The letter is printed in its entirety in the newsletter.

***Hayley St. John, the new Director of Communications for BAUMC, will be visiting our class briefly at 9:45 to get our input on a survey about how we use the communication tools of the church. Get your voice heard by responding to Hayley!

Have a good weekend and remember that you are appreciated, enjoyed and admired by your class members.

Second Emergency Assistance request

Hey, friends:

So sorry to bother you for the second time this week, but Sharon Earley sent me the following message and asked that I distribute it to you ASAP, based upon the immediate need.

Our new resident, Laietis (female), has no clothes. Darlene is going to get a change of clothes from the thrift store, but if our Maranatha family could look in their closets for clothes they no longer wear and bring a few items on Sunday, that would be very helpful. Laietis wears XL shirts and about size 10 pants/jeans.

Thanks and God Bless,

Sharon

Also, Ray Earley’s father, George Earley, passed away on Wednesday. Sharon described him as "87 and ready to go." Services will be in Bartlesville and Sharon says they only need our prayers.

Thanks so much. See some of you on Friday and hopefully most of you on Sunday.

Emergency Assistance needed for Apartment M resident

Hey, friends:

I got the following message today from Sharon Earley:

Darlene learned today that there is a high likelihood that we will have a new resident TOMORROW. She will find out in the morning. I usually put some generic food in the apartment (I could do this tonight) until I can take them shopping – which I can’t do until probably late Friday. If there was someone in the class who would be willing and able to do this Wednesday afternoon or Thursday (but not evening), that would be helpful. Darlene, et. al. will be taking her (name unknown J ) to lunch tomorrow and that person would be welcome to join us. Can you please send out this request and have them contact me if anyone can help. Thanks.

Maranatha Newsletter

Hey, friends:

Attached you will find this week’s newsletter. A few things to note:

*** As a result of a tremendous turnout (63 people! Hot diggety!), we are changing the timing slightly for our Culture and Cuisine Social Event this Friday, March 4th. We will meet first at the Jenks Planetarium, 205 E. "B" Street, Jenks, (housed on the 3rd floor of the new Math & Science building on the Central Campus) at 6:00 Friday. After viewing the presentation on the Sistine Chapel, we will then adjourn to the Tres Amigos Restaurant at 81st & Lewis in the Plaza Shopping Center at 7:15. We had to change restaurants because Los Cabos could only accommodate half of our number and Tres Amigos can seat us all. You may recall that we ate there when we did the Oldie-wed Game as our social. This is a terrific group of people, but we will have more fun if YOU are there, so contact Karen Campbell if your plans change and you can join us!

*** Shari Goodwin has been cleaning out files and has generously placed a number of wonderful pictures on the back table in our classroom. All of them contain members of Maranatha (or our adorable children at various ages), so if you see one that involves someone that you love, feel free to take it to enjoy. Note – I believe I have deftly snagged all of the offending pictures that show Molleigh in her unfortunate perm as a small child, so I would appreciate it if none of you would remind her about that parental mistake on my part.

***Class members generous donated $200 as a love offering to Sharon Cambridge yesterday, to thank her for her hard work on our recent Chili Supper. It will be presented to her, along with a signed card, this week on her 77th birthday.

Have a wonderful week and try to join us on Friday for the Sistine Chapel and sopapillas, if you can.

Remember that you are appreciated, enjoyed and admired by your class members.

Maranatha Newsletter

Hey, friends:

Attached you will find this week’s newsletter. A few things to note:

***Tonight is the Chili Supper. Please come to Community Hall or the kitchen and help if you can between 4:00 and 7:00, even if you are not signed up for a time slot. Many hands make light work!

***This Friday, February 26th, is the special dinner to celebrate Shari Goodwin’s retirement as Communications Director for the church. Please come support her (and enjoy the shenanigans of Denzil Tallent & Gene Martin)if you possibly can. Call the church to get a ticket for $10.00.

***Sunday, February 28th, I am teaching the TAGS Class, which is a fun and participatory workshop where we use activities and hands-on opportunities to determine what Talents, Abilities, Gifts and Skills God has given to you. The class lasts from noon to 4:30 and we provide lunch. If you are interested, please contact me ASAP.

***Sign ups continue on Sunday for the Culture & Cuisine Social Event on March 4th where we are eating at Los Cabos and then attending a private showing at the Jenks Planetarium. We’ve got a good group, but we’d have more fun if YOU came with us!

Newsletter

Hey, friends:

Attached you will find this week’s newsletter with all the news that’s fit to print! Please remember that our Barton/Clinton/Gordey Chili Supper is coming up next week. If you haven’t yet volunteered or need a reminder about the time slot during which you are working, please contact Jim Embrey at jjsembrey. Ticket sellers for this Sunday are : 9:30 -9:45 (Sarah & Cisco Maldonado) 10:40 -11:00 (Stuart Solomon & Jim/Julee Embrey) 12:00 – 12:15 (Sharon Earley & Stuart Solomon).

Our class is continuing to provide meals to the Staats three times per week. Great news about his health: Paul’s insurance has approved him for consultation at M.D. Anderson in Houston! Caranatha Chair Carol Grim is in close contact with Paul & Mary. She will continue to provide information on signing up for meals, but as soon as we know when they will be leaving for Houston, she will let everyone know to "step away from the stove" since they won’t need meals while they are gone.

Don’t forget to purchase your tickets for the dinner on Friday, February 26th, honoring our own Shari Goodwin as she steps down from her position as Director of Communication on BAUMC staff. Tickets are only $10.00 each. Gene Martin and Denzil Tallent are providing the Maranatha Moment on Shari, but she is STILL coming to the dinner anyway! You won’t want to miss it!

Have a great week and know that you are appreciated, enjoyed and admired by your class members.
