"Be yourself; everyone else is already taken."

Maranatha is an amazing class as a whole, and it has amazing individuals! Beverly North taught our lesson today, speaking about her and her husband, Mark’s, journey in supporting two littel girls through Children.Org. It was amazing! Thank you, Beverly (and Mark) for your presentation and personal mission to others. Beverly brought handouts for us to exam, and I’m hopeful that she will bring them once again for members to examine next week. Also, Beverly and Mark will soon have a website where we can learn even more.

Ed Payton (10/24), Beth Winchester (10/25), and Mary Adams(10/29) have birthdays this week. We wish you a happy one! Julee and Jim Embrey have an anniversary on October 30th; congratualtions!

Our greeters who brought goodies this morning were Mickey & Carol Maus, Mike Stephenson, and Denise Graham. Thank you. I must admit to having sampled some of it all, more than once!

Denny and Suzy Meredith-Orr brought in the "Angel Car", and explained that purchasing items listed on the "Car" will benefit the Tulsa Car Clinic; the project that we learned about from Lonnie Vaughn last week. We’ll be brining in items from the "Car" over the next several weeks. If you interested and can’t be in class with us, then check out the Maranatha website for the "Angel Car’ (https://maranathaclass.org/maranatha-mission-projects) or contact Denny or Suzy.

Downtown for Good is scheduled for next Saturday, October 30th. Sign up with the church through Rev. Bill Crowell’s office if you have not already done so. You can sign up to work with other Maranatha members (just tell them that what you want to do), or you can work with another crew. There’s plenty of work to go around; you are needed!

October 31st, following the 11am service, it’s the Downtown Hoedown, an all-church celebration/harvest festival. Hotdogs and the trimmings, games for adults and children. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. $5 per person.

Michael Lane joined the class today; welcome! Grayson Davis and Melanie Evans where our visitors. Baby Grayson feel asleep but we were happy to have him with us anyway.

We had a number of joys and concerns expressed by members this morning. Unfortunately, notes on these joys and concerns were misplaced and, therefore, I can’t give you details. If you were there, you heard that there were those who need your prayers, and there were joys shared by many others as well. If you wish to have a specific joy or concern reported to those who were unable to attend this morning, then please contact me (richard.wansley) and I will send out a second notice this later week.

Lynn Russell led us in prayer. Thank you, Lynn!

Next week: it’s Brunch Sunday! No lesson, just sharing announcements, joys, concerns, prayer, and companionship! Join us!

“Hope begins in the dark, the subborn hope that
if you just show up and try to do the right thing, the
dawn will come. You wait, and watchand work.
You don’t give up!
Anne Lamott, Writer

My apologies for the late message this week. But, you should know that we had a great last Sunday at Maranatha. Our guest speaker was Lonnie Vaughn, who was instrumental in initiating the Tulsa Care Care Clinic. Lonnie not only spoke of the Clinic but also delivered a meaningful Bible lesson that related faith leads to actions. The Car Clinic serves the needs of many in our community who could not otherwise afford to have dependable transportation for work and family. The story and the Car Clinic excited many of our members in the class. In anticipation of this interest, Denny and Suzy Meredith-Orr along with Ed and Judith Payton (who originally invited Lonnie to our class) have organized a mission opportunity benefiting the Car Clinic. Beginning this coming Sunday and throughout the month, Maranatha members will be able to become a part of the “garage” by purchasing items needed for the Clinic’s operation. Suzy and Denny will explain this opportunity to us on Sunday.    See Angel Car  in Classroom or click here

On Sunday, we recognized two anniversaries, Sarah & Sam Smith (10/19) and Linda (Morrissey) & John Nicks (10/23). “Happy Anniversary” to both ciouples. No birthdays this week.

Our greeters who brought refreshments were Skip & Paula Scott and David & Kendall Carpenter; thank you! Yummy! Next week, Mickey & Carol Maus (guilty snacks/cleanup) and Mike Stephenson & Denise Graham (healthy snacks/set up) will greet and bring refreshments for the class.

Visitors were plentiful, and that’s great. They were Sarah & Jim Young, Michael Lane, Eddie & Connie Green (Michael is Eric’s brother), Ashley Butterworth, Chris McGee, and Alexis Brownlee. If you know these folks, please let them know they are always welcome at Maranatha.

Denny Meredith-Orr and Jim Embry (oh boy, what a pair!) made certain that we knew that one of the auction parties, a Halloween Party, is coming up on October 30th. If you bought passage to this party, please RSVP; if you want to go but didn’t originally buy-in, your welcome and should contact Denny to let them know you want to “dress up” and be ghoulish!  Email:  odms2@yahoo.com

William Meyer offered a thoughtful prayer following announcements, joys and concerns. Please keep our VIM team in your prayers.

From previous messages this week, you know that Mary Staat’s father died, and that Kenny King is struggling with illness. Keep these members and their families in your prayers, as well.

On Sunday, our own members, Beverly and Mark North will teach a lesson entitled, “The Lift One (Two) Project”. On Sunday, October 31st, a fifth Sunday of the month, we will have a Brunch where no lesson or presentation is currrently planned.

See you Sunday!! Ya’ll come!

Clint Cheek (Father of Mary Staat)

This message from Karen Campbell is an update to the earlier "Death of Mary Staat’s Father" message:

"…Mary Staat’s dad passed away in Norman. The services are Thursday, October 21, at 10 AM at Christ United Methodist Church. Her parents had been very active members of Christ and their congregation will be taking care of the lunch for the family.

At this time, we don’t know of any needs, but cards and notes would be appreciated. Chancel Choir is still taking meals to the Staat family. The grass isn’t growing and the leaves aren’t falling, so their yard is doing fine. However, Maranatha is on standby for additional meals and yard work as needed."

The earlier message had reported that the funeral will be held at 11am, but according to Moore Funeral Home’s online information, the funeral will be held at 10am. The viewing will be today from 3-8pm at Moore Funeral Home. – Barbara Meehan

Important request from Kenny King

"I have a request to the class for prayer. Most of the time, of course, we ask on behalf of others. This time I must swallow my pride and share my situation and ask for prayer for myself. I have been in and out of the hospital twice since June fighting a serious infection. It’s bad enough that I don’t have a penny of health insurance, but I am self-employed and haven’t been able to work much of the Summer.

I’d like to ask for specific prayers:

Divine Guidance. I often fear that my prayers and my actions are not in line with His divine will. A look at my circumstances would seem to confirm that. Yet I continue to believe that he "leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake" Who said this Christianity stuff is easy?

Continued healing. so that I can return to work.

Work. to return to.

Thanks.

Death of Friday Leonard, mother of Thad Leonard

Sharon Earley shared this information today regarding the death of Friday Leonard, Thad Leonard’s mother:

"It is with deep regret that I pass on the news that Friday Leonard passed away yesterday. Services will be at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church on Thursday at 11 a.m. All of us in the OMM community are deeply indebted to Carl and Friday for their love and support of The Manor. Carl was a long time board member who remained active until his health declined.

Please join me praying for the family and in expressing your condolences.

Maranatha News

Good day! Meredith and I missed seeing and communicating with you over the past two Sundays. We were out of town each weekend celebrating the weddings of a friend and family member. It is our understanding that we have "stirring" lessons from Nancy Pittman of Phillips Theological Seminary. Meredith and I regret that we didn’t have the opportunity to hear her presentations and participate in discussions.

Next week, Sunday, October 17th, Maranatha will have a presentation by Lonnie Vaughn who is representing the Tulsa Area Car Care Clinic. The Clinic is an exciting, novel program that has faith-based sponsorship in Tulsa. Ed Payton, a member in our class, suggested the lesson to us, and I feel you’ll be most interested in know more about this mission in our community. Speaking of missions, Suzy and Denny Meredith-Orr are exploring options to reach out, as our own mission opportunity, to support the Car Clinic in the next couple of weeks. More on this from Suzy and Denny later.

On October 24th, our own Beverly North will be our teacher. Her topic will be forwarded to you prior to her lesson.

Bring yourselves, your family, and friends to Maranatha on Sunday !!

Please see an important message below from Kenny King:
"just wanted to let the class know I am finally home from the hospital after almost 2 weeks. had a serious infection and was severly dehydrated. managed to avoid surgery for now. thanks for the prayers.
