Meredith in Hospital

William,

Please know that Meredith was hospitalized at St. John on Monday evening. We expected her to be out by now but that’s not the case. Meredith needs to have her gall bladder removed but a complication has come up, and a procedure to resolve the problem failed earlier today. They will attempt the procedure again tomorrow and she may have surgery to remove the gall bladder on Friday. Depending on the procedure’s outcome, she may or may not have a form of surgery that will allow her to leave on Friday or Saturday. She may be there even longer. She not feeling well and sleeps often due to the drugs to control the pain and her overall health status. I’m not sure that she feels well enough for visitors, but thoughts and prayers from you and the other members of the Maranatha class would be much appreciated. Thanks, much; I will keep you informed with her status.

Richard

Nancy Morgan – Comfort Food

Nancy Morgan is scheduled for outpatient surgery tomorrow morning.  Nancy is looking at a six to eight week recovery period.  Her sisters, Suzan (classmate) and Janet, will be staying with her for the first several days.  Beginning Tuesday, Nancy could use some help with meals.

If you would like to help with food, please send me an email at maranathaclass(at)gmail.com (substitute @ for (at)).  Indicate what day you would like and what you wish to prepare and deliver.  I will communicate with the group of responders to confirm dates, address, phone number, etc.

Nancy has no diet restrictions.  She likes everything, except meatloaf is not her favorite and lasagna (or spicy, tomato-based foods) might not be the best for her right now.  She really likes chicken.  The doctor told her with the difficult recovery she is facing, she needs COMFORT FOOD!

Tuesday, 2/22
Wednesday, 2/23
Thursday, 2/24
Monday, 2/28
Tuesday, 3/1
Thanks,
Karen

Prayers for Baby Stella Payton

Shari Goodwin asked that I send this news to our class about Richard and Jeanie Payton’s new granddaughter, Stella. Stella was born on Wednesday, Jan. 26, by C-section, weighing only 4 pounds, 4 ounces. She was delivered early because of the discovery of increasing fluid and pressure in her brain. She has been given an early diagnosis of lissencephaly, which has a high mortality rate and very likely mental retardation, but doctors are not sure yet the severity. The Paytons ask for your prayers.

Please keep the doctors, Stella and her parents, Richie and Joey, and the rest of the family in your thoughts and prayers.

Corrected Update on Paul Staat

The earlier message was cut off, just as it was getting good. Here it is again:

Paul Staat’s surgery was Thursday and much more involved than anticipated and his stay has been extended to Wednesday, July 28th.  He is in St. John’s room 1027.  Paul welcomes visitors.  The next four days will probably get pretty long.

The surgery was successful and the doctors are sure that he will feel much better for having gone through it.  However, during the surgery the doctors did detect abnormal lymph nodes.  Of course, they removed them for testing.  They will also be running more tests tomorrow, keeping Paul busy.  Whatever this is, they feel certain that it has been caught very early, as he has shown no symptoms.

Mary is juggling between Paul at the hospital and Kate at home and Kate visiting the Paul.
I am going to take some quick-fix lunch/dinner items to Kate and Mary for the juggling time period.  Perhaps a few meals next week would be helpful.  I am thinking Wednesday would be nice — that first day home time gets away from you.  Then another meal Friday or Saturday, whichever works into your schedule.  Mary starts back to work August 4th, so they may need some help about then, depending on how Paul’s recuperation is coming along.

If you would like to help with one of the two meals for next week, email Karen Brownlee Campbell at k.brownlee(at)sbcglobal.net (substitute @ for “(at)”).  She will email you in return to confirm plans.  We will keep you posted on the needs for the week of August 1.

We ask for you to remember Paul and Mary in your thoughts and prayers.

Status of Carol Maus

Message from Mickey Maus:

“We got some good news yesterday from the orthopedic doctor. Carol is not going to require any surgery on her elbow. The broken finger and the broken bone in her elbow are splinted at the present time, but should mend over the next couple of months. She will get the stitches out of her knee on July 2nd. The abrasions on her face and hands are now healing. She is going to spend the next couple of weeks in a recliner. I am rearranging my travel schedule to reduce my number of nights out for the next two months. We appreciate all the prayers, meals, and cards. Thanks.”
