Prayer Request & Last Two Weeks Lessons

A prayer request from Steve Jacoby.

William

———- Forwarded message ———-
From: Jacoby, Steven R.
Date: Tue, Aug 30, 2011 at 9:32 AM
Subject: prayer request

William – my cousin Kathy in Michigan has been given a poor prognosis
for a cancer she had been dealing with. The form had some good results
in the past but has not been found in her gall bladder. Assuming her
strength is adequate (she is very weak right now), she will begin
aggressive chemo tomorrow (Wednesday, August 31) and a series of
holistic treatments next week. She is a very dear sole and I would
appreciate all prayers for her and her husband Dennis as they go through
this fight.

I wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed last week’s lesson and
this week’s lesson. I appreciate the symbols and often feel God
communicates to us in symbols and stories. The Bible is full of
examples. We talk about signs from God, the rainbow, the moist rain.
At Clarehouse, they have butterflies that they grow and twice a year
have a service for all those who have passed and loved ones of the
deceased release a butterfly in honor of their loved one. The
symbolism is quite moving as the butterflies take flight. I really
appreciated the lessons and the history these past 2 weeks. Thank you
for sharing.

Update on Car Care Clinic

Here is an update on the Car Care Clinic

William

From: Ed Payton

Subject: UPDATE ON CAR CARE CLINIC

William,

I thought the class might appreciate an update on the Car Care Clinic- since they were instrumental in having Boston Avenue get involved with this ministry and made a significant donation last year and this year.

Here is an email update I received from the Volunteer Director of the Ministry Lonnie Vaughn after I sent him a copy of the in the recent Boston Avenue newsletter:

Great article! Sat, Sept 3rd will be our 1st clinic. Trinity Episcopal (Iron Gate) and First Presbyterian are partnering with us. We already have clients lined up. Josh (a BA member) has a fully equipped repair shop and we have everything we need.

First Christian in Owasso will be having their first clinic starting Sat, Oct. 15th. The owner of Danny’s Auto Salvage and several other members of First Christian are helping with the startup expenses.

Sept will be our 9th anniversary at the Dream Center, E. 46th St N., just W. of Cincinnati. Starting Sat, Oct 8th we are adding four new North Tulsa partners. Metropolitan Bapt, Greenwood Christian, Antioch Bapt and Friendship Metropolitan. We have some of the equipment we need but could use some help. Would you bring this need to the Maranatha Class and ask them if they would consider helping us out?

What a blessing it is for me to see the vision that God has given me inside my spirit come to life.

Engineers in Action

A note from Steve Jacoby.
William

———- Forwarded message ———-
From: Jacoby, Steven R. <STEVEN.R.JACOBY(at)saic.com>
Date: Sun, Aug 14, 2011 at 4:44 PM
Subject: Engineers in Action

William – it has been a busy week and I am a bit slow in getting back to thank the class for its hospitality to Dr. Ruben Mamani, our office manager and mission coordinator in La Paz, Bolivia for Engineers in Action.  If you could distribute this with your weekly newsletter about class activity this it would be appreciated.  A couple of folks asked for a link to the EIA web site.

The base site is –
http://engineersinaction.org/

If you want to understand best what we do, I suggest you read some of the intern testimonials at –
http://engineersinaction.org/internships/intern-testimonials/

If you would like to correspond directly with Dr. Mamani, his email address is –
Dr. Ruben Mamani <ruben775(at)yahoo.com>

Again thanks for your interest and support.  We will have a couple of our other engineers in Oklahoma October 20 to October 30 and will available to make presentations to interested groups after the 26th. If you are aware of any connections that we can make for projects or funding, we would welcome any input.  As I indicated in our brief presentation, we have found a significant model and have been very successful, but the ability to grow and meet the need is limited only by the ability to fund additional engineers.  Our growth from an initial budget of only $10,000 for year one to $250,000 in 4 years has been fantastic and has met many needs, but sadly many children and families continue to need our help.

Lastly, don’t let our name scare you away if you have an interest in helping.  Our work runs so closely tied to the Oklahoma Bolivian Mission and you do not need to be an engineer to become involved.  We have many non-engineering members or supporters.

Steve Jacoby

E-Mails from Monday

A prayer request from Lee Nichols.

Subject: Prayer request
Date: Monday, August 8, 2011, 12:15 AM

Hi,

I was wondering if you could say a prayer for my brother. He is having a family crisis and would appreciate a prayer to help him during this time. Thank you.

Also, I just wanted to say please keep me and my daughter in your prayers too. We both have been sick. My daughter is much better and doing well. I hurt my back last September and again in April. I have fallen down my stairs twice :(. I have been working hard in rehab all summer to heal myself and I am doing much better. I did not know that backs could make one so immobile or be so painful. I hope to return to work and a more normal active life soon.

Thank you.

Thanks,

Teachers in August

Here is our list of teachers for August.

Subject: August teachers

Bill Crowell August 7 & 14

Carol Grimm August 21 & 28

Here is Dr Crowell’s Lesson plan for 7 August and 14 August.

William

I’m doing two new books that came out late last year…

Aug 7 Week One – The Greatest Prayer by John Dominic Crossan. This is a new look at The Lord’s Prayer – wonderful study!

Aug 14 Week Two – The Problem with the Resurrection by Brandon Scott, Phillips Theological Seminary – a provocative title but a scholar’s look at the evidence from the New Testament and how he pieces together that evidence to come to some interesting conclusions.
