Maranatha Class News from January 8, 2012

Suzy and I are excited to finally begin this year serving you all as Class Presidents! It is a warm and comforting feeling to look out and see so many familiar and supportive faces in Class this morning. With your help, we’ll work out the kinks and have things flowing smoothly in a short time.

Suzy opened the Class with a prayer.

Hosts
Debbie and Scott Morgan and Debbie and Neal Pascoe – Thank you!

Special Presentation
We presented William Meyer with a Bible Dictionary as a token of thanks and gratitude from the class for his leadership and decision to step in and facilitate the class when no one else was prepared to do so. We admire his courage and conviction in taking on such a role. There was also a thank you gift for Michelle Place for her service as Curriculum Coordinator for 2011. It will be presented to her at a later date.

Guests
Will Haskell was our only guest in class this morning

Birthdays (No Anniversaries this coming week)

Joel Panciera – Jan 9
David Rose – Jan 12

Announcements
~There is an opportunity to place an ad in the upcoming BA Directory. A sheet was passed around for people to sign-up

~ The January Social Event – Friday, January 20 at 6:30pm January Social – a Pot-luck Dinner and Texas Hold’em night in the Maranatha Class room. It will also benefit the Food Bank – Poker chips for the evening’s activities will be “purchased” by bringing canned food items.

Joys and Concerns
~ John Sherman’s Mother is improved and has been moved to Methodist Manor
~ Patty Harrison has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer – prayers are asked on her behalf
~ Bill Thomas expressed deep appreciation on behalf of himself and his brother and their families, for the outpouring of concern and support after the recent death of their father just before Christmas

I announced that there would be forms available at the check-in desk for people to share Joys and Concerns in writing. This will enable us to make sure we have the correct information for the Class News. It is not necessary to complete the forms, they are just being provided if needed.

Dec 10 Auction Update

From: Michelle Place
Sent: Thursday, December 1, 2011 5:24 PM

Dear Class,

We have had a few more forms for auction items turned in and have heard several rumblings of potential items. Anything you could send me Friday would be great so that I could organize them prior to leaving town for 8 days. After Friday, you will need to contact Pam Sherman.

Here is what we have so far:

Live Auction Items:
A Chili & Blues Party,
Super Bowl Party, Witching for Unmarked Graves in the Perryman Cemetery followed by rooftop beverages,
another Gourmet Dinner for 24 people,
Dinner for 4 at Juniper’s,
an Outdoor Movie Night,
A week in a Chicago apartment

Silent Auction Items:
2 handmade somethings from Beverly North, 1 Christmas quilt & 1 other quilt, 12 months of PC maintenance, 2 tickets to Fiddler on the Roof, a dog bed & toys. Please bring your silent auction items the night of the event but having the form ahead of time would be helpful.

If you are unable to attend the party on Saturday, Dec 10, consider finding someone to bid for you. Also, cash contributions are certainly accepted. Invoices will be produced and distributed to bidders.

Again, Friday is my deadline and after that, any auction forms need to go to Pam Sherman. I’ll be thinking of the party and praying for its success while I am out of town. Remember that all proceeds go to missions inside the church and in our community.

Thanks,
Michelle Place

Maranatha Auction

Our Annual Christmas Party and auction are quickly approaching.   If you have put this creative and organizational task off, please take some time to move it up on your to do list.  Kirk and I leave town on Saturday and will be gone all the week before the auction.  If I could get this organized before I leave, my committee members would be less stressed about their own to do lists.  Use these links for the auction form – in PDF and in Microsoft Word.
Please email to mplacetul(at)sbcglobal.net.

We will auction all parties or gatherings in the live auction and “things” will be silent.

So far we have the following items to auction:

1.        Super Bowl Party in February
2.       Witching for Unmarked Graves at the Perryman Cemetery followed by beverages & appetizers on El Guapo’s rooftop in April
3.       Chili & Blues party

Silent Auction – I didn’t look closely at the items
1.        2 handmade items by Beverly North
2.       Something rolled up like a print or poster

Thanks,
Michelle Place, Lynn Russell, Pam Sherman & Nancy Morgan

Food, Faith & Sharing, November 27 2011 5:30PM to 7:00PM. An old Fashion covered dish supper in Community Hall for the Sunday evening after Thanksgiving will be our monthly Vesper Service. We will gather around tables of eight, share a meal and share experiences of memorable and meaningful Thanksgiving and Advent Season times in our lives. This is intergenerational, all ages included. We will have facilitators at each table to help the discussion and then we will conclude with communion at each table. We will design the discussion as a way to make the transition from Thanksgiving  Weekend into the beginning of Advent, preparing for a more meaningful Christmas. So, if you will be in town, join us for an old fashioned potluck supper, table fellowship, informal devotion and communion. I just wanted to say that I love our joys and concerns section. I
really like that we spend the time on issues that clearly are
important to many individual members of our class. I hope we keep
things exactly the way that they are now. And, I think our president
is doing a great job. Thank you to him.

In a message dated 7/25/2011 4:16:53 P.M. Central Daylight Time,
maranathaclass(at)gmail.com writes:

It has been brought to my attention that several members feel we are
spending to much time with Announcements and Joys and Concerns. I
apologizes to any and all who are irritated by this. It has been one
of my goals has President to make sure the speaker has plenty of time
to speak and that Choir members are able to hear as much of the
speaker as possible. So, Thank you to the class for keeping me on my
toes, it is greatly appreciated.
Having said that, and discussing this with Michelle Place, I am going
to offer another avenue for Announcements and Joys and Concerns.
Email:
willaim.meyer(at)yahoo.com
maranathaclass(at)gmail.com

The Yahoo address I check twice a day. The Maranatha address I check
once a day, sometimes twice. The announcements and Joys and Concerns
will be forward right away. However, let us keep in mind we will have
those who prefer to address the class and this option is still open.
Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Sincerely
