At times we dwell to much on joys and concerns. I agree with you
these could be e-mailed in to you in advance. You will still get a
few that will need to be addressed that day. I think you are doing a
great job.

Thanks,

Mickey

I too appreciate the tough job that William is doing. As an
occasional teacher of this class I know how daunting getting up in
front of this group of folks can be so I know that John and I
appreciate the job that William is doing.

I also do believe that joys and concerns are the key to our class. We
tried previously to have a ‘box’ where people would drop joys and
concerns into it and it would be read to the class. That might work
for some but I think for the majority of people they would like to
voice what’s on their heart.

We might try both for a while and see how that works, but in any
event, I want to reiterate that we should thank William for his
willingness to step up when no one else was interested. I’ll get off
my soap box for now.

Thank you Lord for this wonderful group of people who can air their
differences and come together for the good of all.

I believe that our joys, concerns, and announcement section is very
important, but the problem is people won’t sit down in a timely
manner. when we first attended the class, it was very bothersome not
to be able to get to the coffee, people mingle in front of the doorway
and snack table, we have a very large classroom and people mingle in
the way. the president tries to get people to sit down but he is
ignored for a period. William is doing a great job. i believe he
stepped out of his comfort zone to take on this job. My hat is off to
him. keep doing what you’re doing and maybe we can all be happy.

I just wanted to say that I love our joys and concerns section. I
really like that we spend the time on issues that clearly are
important to many individual members of our class. I hope we keep
things exactly the way that they are now. And, I think our president
is doing a great job. Thank you to him.

It has been brought to my attention that several members feel we are
spending to much time with Announcements and Joys and Concerns. I
apologizes to any and all who are irritated by this. It has been one
of my goals has President to make sure the speaker has plenty of time
to speak and that Choir members are able to hear as much of the
speaker as possible. So, Thank you to the class for keeping me on my
toes, it is greatly appreciated.
Having said that, and discussing this with Michelle Place, I am going
to offer another avenue for Announcements and Joys and Concerns.
Email:
willaim.meyer(at)yahoo.com
maranathaclass(at)gmail.com

The Yahoo address I check twice a day. The Maranatha address I check
once a day, sometimes twice. The announcements and Joys and Concerns
will be forward right away. However, let us keep in mind we will have
those who prefer to address the class and this option is still open.
Any suggestions are welcome and appreciated.

Sincerely

I saw Johnnie Romo and his new bride Jeannine (Bezotte. They were
married June 2 at St. Lukes). They have just purchased a house which
needs much work done on it. Johnnie asked if I would pass along a
request for the donation of ANY type of building materials-windows,
flooring, tile, faucets, etc.
So if anyone can help him out, he and Jeannine would greatly
appreciate it. Johnnie is doing very well, Jeannine says….working
almost 65 hours a week. And then they are trying to get their house
ready to move into. I’m not sure how to contact Johnnie, but maybe
someone else would have that information.

Operation Magic Carpet Ride

Maranatha Class, Boston Avenue Youth, and friends

“Operation Magic Carpet Ride”–by Jim Embrey

On June 30 the Maranatha and Boston Avenue Youth group ‘swept’ into Paul Staat’s home and within 2 1/2 hours moved/relocated furniture from three rooms, pulled up carpet, carpet padding, tack strips and about 5,000 nails/tacks/staples, swept, vacuumed, wet mopped and then moved/relocated furniture back into their respective rooms. This mission was needed to help Paul Staat’s eventual recovering after taking medications that can reduce his immune system. The carpet removal was needed due to the fact carpets and rugs tend to harbor pollens and other irritants that could affect Paul and his recuperation from the medications. As usual the “Alpha Team” (Maranatha) coupled with the B.A. Youth group worked well together and accomplished the job efficiently, neatly, safely and well ahead of schedule. Just another testimony to the ‘Spirit’ that resides in us all and how we utilize it in magnifying Christ’s good works.

Operation Magic Carpet Ride

Here is more information concerning carpet removal at the Staat’s on
Thursday 30 June.

William

Subject: RE: Paul & Mary Staat’s home–Operation Magic Carpet Ride (MCR)
Date: Sun, 26 Jun 2011 16:45:48 -0500

All,

I have confirmed with Mary that this coming Thursday, June 30 starting at 0830 will be good for them too in the carpet removal from their home. Mary will be calling the City of Tulsa to make arrangements to pick up the carpet at curbside.

A recap of what we will need to do:

Three rooms with small closets (Mary has moved all of the stuff off of the floor), the largest is approximately 12′ x 12′.

1. Move furniture out of the room.
2. Pull the carpet up along with the padding.
Note: we may have to remove some molding on the floor, depending on how the tack strip was installed. For speed, if needed we will remove the center then move onto the molding later in
the process. We will wing this as we go…
3. Vacuum the floors.
4. Move furniture back into the room.

Tools needed:

Claw hammers
Pry bars (flat blade preferred)
Razor/box cutter knives
Pliers, assorted types, i.e. needle nose, diagonal, regular. (used to pull up carpet to cut, pull nails, tack stripes, etc.).
Shop vacuums, I will bring mine and we probably will
need one more for multi-tasking.
General purpose tools (home type–nothing high tech).

Miscellaneous:

Large garbage bags (I have some 55 gallon)
Gloves
Dust mask (I have some, 3M type)

I will bring some bottled water, if you want to bring anything else, make it so.

Once done, if interested, go to Ron’s hamburgers for lunch and a little fellowship. About 1/8 of a mile from Mary & Paul’s home (located on Peoria).

If I missed anything let me know, but I believe this is about it. My cell is 918-625-3373 if you need to get a hold of me.

Peace out!

Jim

Foster Care for Dogs – Found

Two notes from Nikki Smith — William sent the first out to the class by email and Nikki found a home for her dogs before the request had been posted to this blog.

First:

As many of you know, after 25 years I lost my job due to downsizing last summer. I have not had any success finding a comparable job. As a result I am in the process of making some very difficult decisions. I am moving out of my house and moving into an apartment. I will only be able to take one of my dogs (the smallest one). My two male dogs; blue heeler mix (7 years) and lab mix (4 years) need a foster home. I hope that within a year I will be able to move back into a house and take them back. They are healthy, loveable and loyal pets.

If you or someone you know would be willing to take one or both dogs you may contact me on my cell number listed below. I love these dogs very much and I hate that I can’t keep them with me. I would appreciate any assistance from the class.

Thank you! Nikki Smith

And then Nikki wrote this morning:

I’m happy to report that I’ve found a place that I can bring all 3 dogs!

Decoration Day

A message from Jim Embrey

William

All,

A reminder that if you get a chance this weekend go by Floral Haven (Tulsa) main office (west side/outside) to see our SWR-OK-151 CAP unit perform the ceremony for the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. It will be happening Saturday thru Monday (I have the midnight to 0600 Sunday shift!, so I might not see ya), it will only take you less than 30 minutes’ish.

Sam isn’t on this team, still working his way up to get there, however he is on Color Guard and is performing “flag patrol” through out the cemetery. There are thousands of flags, one for each Warrior, along with a dog tag for each flag pole. I send some pic’s post this event.

Have a great and safe weekend,

Jim, Julee and Sam Embrey

Four Messages

(1) My sobriety, and recovery in the guidance from God

Dear Maranatha Class,

I wanted to take the time to thank you all for the love and support of each and everyone. I am doing well, I am currently living at the Mission…aka The homeless shelter, It was a god sent that there was a bed available. I am enjoying my sobriety and recovery. A bed at the sober living has opened up, so I’m attempting to find work so that I can financially afford to be a resident of that facility. I do feel that the sober living would be the best place for me because I will still have the structure I need. This will run me 100$ a week. So, I’m currently looking for full time work. I have picked up some side work, making about 250.00 a moth while I look for other means of income. The place that I am currently at will not allow my children the ability to spend time with me. So, in my inquire about the sober living the children will be able to stay the night on
occasion and also spend time with me whenever they would like. This is a goal of mine that I hope to accomplish soon. I am attending one to two meeting a day, through NA and AA. I also am attending NA group functions. These meetings are an asset to my recovery. Please keep me and my children in your prayers and hope for the re-unification soon.
” WALKING THROUGH FEAR”
If we still cling to something we will not let go, we ask god to help us be willing….

Again thank you for the love and support:)

God Bless

Bethany Willyard ..

Kyla, Krysten and Logan.

Please share this with the class thank you.

(2) College Graduates

A message from Shari Goodwin —

Hi, William,

I am working on next weeks issue of The Word, which will include information about all church members who have earned college degrees since last June.

Since so many of our Maranatha children are graduating, would you please ask everyone in our class to let me know if they have someone in the family who has received a college degree this year (if they haven’t already called or emailed me). They can call me (918-699-0132) or email sharigoodwin(at)bostonavenue.org and leave the name, college attended and degree earned. Don’t want to leave anyone out!

Thanks so much –
Shari Goodwin

(3) Friend in need

A request by Mary Elliott —

I have a friend that is needing a place to live.  They thought they had something lined up and it fell through at the last minute.  They have dogs and would like to keep them if at all possible.  They need to move in less than three weeks!  Does anyone have any ideas?

(4) Reenactment Ceremony, Floral Haven, Memorial Day

Reenactment of Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown
